Tullow has had interests in Pakistan since 1991 and has an office in Islamabad employing mainly local staff and a production team at its Sara/Suri and Chachar gas fields which includes technical and administrative personnel.

With eight licences, Tullow has a range of exploration, development and production blocks. The acreage is located in the Kohat-Potwar Plateau, the Sulaiman Fold Belt and the Middle Indus basin, where Tullow has been supplying gas to the Guddu power station since 1999.

The Sara and Suri fields have been producing sales gas since 1999. Production at the Chachar Field commenced in the second half of 2007.

In April 2005 Tullow was awarded interests in two exploration licences - Bannu West and Kohat. Cross assignments were made with Mari Gas and OGDCL to give Tullow a non-operating 30% working interest in the Kohlu and Kalchas licences. A 2D survey was carried out over the Kohat Block during 2006 and the integration of this data resulted in the maturation of a number of drillable prospects in this block. The first well on the Kohat block is due to be drilled in early 2009.

The Block 28 exploration licence remains under Force Majeure and operations are on hold pending the resolution of outstanding issues with the authorities.
